Making New Mexico a Healthier Place byJackson Simpkins

I’m Jackson Simpkins, I’m a Senior at Eldorado High School, this is my fourth year in Evolvement. I joined the leadership team to encourage change in New Mexico and work on higher level opportunities.

At this year’s leadership team summit, we not only had a lot of fun, we also learned about a new campaign called Own Your Air. This new campaign allows us to visit elementary and middle schools to talk and educate elementary and middle school students about nicotine products. We also visited Escape the Room, Albuquerque, and had a lot of fun, escaping the hardest room. We not only had fun, but also built great friendships and teamwork skills.

Being in Evolvement is important to me because on February 23, 2024, I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder, and have fought functional paralysis since then. I have to use accessible stalls in restrooms. Those stalls are the most popular place to smoke/vape in and I want to influence the change to make those stalls and all of New Mexico a healthier place.
