My name is Anna Oglesby, I’m from Portales High School, and I’ve participated in Evolvement for about 3 years. I decided to apply to be on the Leadership Team because I wanted to help implement nicotine regulations at my school. My community is heavily affected by nicotine, due to the lack of knowledge about nicotine’s harmful effects.
Getting to attend the Leadership Team Summit has taught me the strategies and skill sets needed to make real change in my community. While at Summit, I’ve been able to connect with like-minded students and I’ve had a lot of fun. Participating in group activities such as an escape room, built team morale and encouraged everyone to become more comfortable with one another.
Being in Evolvement is important to me because it allows me to lead the nicotine free initiative at my school. I also gain access to high value opportunities that I would have never gotten without Evolvement. Overall, being in this program has improved both mine and my peer’s understanding of the negative consequences of nicotine.
